Just before I speak

The stage is set
The mic is ON
You've been introduced
The audience is clapping

The probably don't know you
They've only heard your story
They love your story
And so they applaud out of love

Within a couple of seconds
You are about to be judged
Within a couple of seconds
You are about to leave a long lasting impression

You know you can do it
You can feel your heart pacing
You know what to say
You got your script ready

Too many 'you's, yet not you
If He doesn't fire you, you are left cold
If He doesn't move you can't move
If He doesn't move they can't move

Now the applause fades
As you hold the MIC
You stand still like a rock
In a moment of silence the hall is still

It's time to talk
But you cant talk
It time to speak
But twisted tongues don't speak

Then suddenly you smile
As you gaze at the audience
A gaze with the eyes almost shut
You lick your lip

And...

It all begins with one word
One grammatical word
It ends with one word
One grammatical word

But again they need a word
A word for their situation
A word for expansion
A word that will flood their parched land

You don't know if you are sent to all
Yet you have to receive all
You don't know if all will be touched
Yet you have to teach all

What they need are not words
All they need
As simple as it sounds
Is...

One word

Lord show me the way as I speak to the youths in Apapa tomorrow
